Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution V
The Evo V turned heads immediately with its new aesthetic looks of protruding wheel arches and the front bonnet vent. The world could see that this Evolution V meant business and they weren’t wrong. Mitsubishi decided to pull out all the stops by pushing the limits of the chassis and body regulations. Of course this wasn’t all for looks, the Evo V was finely tuned to make up for weaknesses in previous models.
The newly obvious wheel arches were to give room for the new wider wheels. This in turn made room for the bigger and better Brembo brakes. To keep the stopping power at its peak, front bumper cooling vents were added to give extra air flow to the brakes and other parts of the engine bay.
Though the Horse power remained at 276 Hp, street owners and other drivers speculate it to be much more. This could have been down to a new turbo and intercooler. Or perhaps the new engine pistons could have played a role. One thing was for certain and that was the torque was once again increased.
As always, handling items were tweaked to bring better steering and cornering. Suspension camber adjusters were now found on the Evo V. A new improved and lighter power steering pump was fitted. Although the steering pump was lighter, the overall weight of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution V was increased by 22lb.
